ʜᴏᴡ ᴛᴏ ɢᴇᴛ ᴀᴡᴀʏ ꜰʀᴏᴍ ᴛᴏxɪᴄ ᴘᴇᴏᴘʟᴇ: 5 ᴛɪᴘꜱ ᴛᴏ ꜰʀᴇᴇ ʏᴏᴜʀꜱᴇʟꜰ

How do you get away from toxic people? It’s not always easy to free ourselves from those relationships that stress and exhaust us, and yet it’s necessary. So how do you go about it? Here are 5 tips you can apply.
1 – How to distance yourself from toxic people? By distancing yourself
What we’re talking about here is making sure we see as little as possible of the toxic people around us. This may seem obvious, but it’s not uncommon for guilt, fear of what people will say and even fear of the consequences to drive us to see toxic people on a regular basis.
So how can we free ourselves from this guilt and fear?
We need to remember that our relationships are free. That we have the right to see or not to see a person. Even if that person makes us feel guilty, even if other people tell us: “You could make an effort. So-and-so isn’t that toxic.”
In fact, it’s all about listening to yourself and not to others.
Do you want to see this person? Do you or don’t you? Let your heart tell you the answer.
How do you get away from toxic people? By realizing that we always have a choice.
2 – Our time is precious
Our time is precious. In fact, every day, we are given 24 hours. It’s a gift, but it can be taken away from us at any time without notice.
That’s why it’s essential to remember that since our time is so precious, we might as well spend it doing things that make me happy and seeing people whose contact makes me feel good.
So why do we continue to have toxic relationships?
Because that’s what we do every day when we don’t stay away from each other. We feel guilty, afraid, and yet our time is running out and won’t come back.
How do we get away from toxic people? By realizing that our time is precious and that it’s up to us to use it with the people we choose.
3 – Our happiness is precious
When we have relationships with toxic people, when we come out of a moment with them, we don’t feel good. In fact, we feel stressed, negative and tired.
In fact, we don’t always think to look to our relationships for the origin of this occasional malaise, yet this is often the case.
And even when we realize that it’s a particular relationship that’s ruining our lives, we keep asking ourselves the question: how can we get away from toxic people?
In the end, there’s no quick fix, just a decision to distance ourselves from them.
But there’s always something holding us back, and quite often, it’s guilt.
In fact, the point here is to remember one essential thing: we are responsible for our own happiness. And if we discover that this happiness is being abused in the presence of certain people, it’s our duty to ourselves, for the sake of our happiness, to distance ourselves. No more, no less.
There’s no drama. It’s simply a necessary, even vital, decision. What are we without our happiness?
4 – We’re not responsible for other people’s happiness
Unfortunately, we know it’s not that easy to free ourselves from toxic people.
Because they’re not called toxic for nothing.
In fact, these people often make us responsible for their happiness. In fact, they often victimize themselves. They tell us over and over: “If I’m sad, it’s because of her, because of him, because of that.”
And when we start to distance ourselves, we become their new tormentor: “If I’m sad, it’s because you come to see me less. Because you’ve changed…”
So, how do we distance ourselves from toxic people? By reminding ourselves that we are not responsible for other people’s happiness. Other people are responsible for their happiness, just as we are responsible for ours.
5 – Don’t be afraid of judgment to get away from toxic people
What’s more, toxic people can sometimes be part of our family, and here again, it’s not easy to distance ourselves.
In fact, there will often be another member of our family to come and judge our behavior: “Why don’t you go and see so-and-so anymore, he called me, he’s sad because of you.”
Here, it’s all about taking a deep breath and refocusing.
Remember everything we’ve just seen: I am…
free to see who I want, at the frequency I want
free to use my precious time as I see fit
responsible for my own happiness
and not responsible for the happiness of others
Finally, I’m impervious to the judgment of others
If others don’t give you your right to be free, then they are by definition toxic to you and your happiness.
You are free of everything, so stop believing people who tell you otherwise.
In fact, this life is yours and you can do what you like with it.
So there’s no need to be dramatic, no need to shout. You just have to distance yourself.

The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides
This novel revolves around a woman’s act of violence against her husband and the silence she keeps afterwards, uncovering toxic material within their relationship.
It was an entertaining journey. From start to finish, it was extremely engrossing. I already want to read it again.
