How To Become More Perseverant And Achieve Your Goals: 10 Tips

Our lives don’t change by chance, but by change. But achieving our goals isn’t easy, and most of the time we end up giving up. In other words, nothing in our lives changes. So how do we go about it? The key is perseverance. That is, never giving up. But how can we become more persistent? How can we develop this quality? Here are 10 powerful tips to help you!
1 – Becoming more persevering: having the right goal
To become more persevering, it’s essential to have the right objective.
Because if we’re chasing the wrong thing for the wrong reason, chances are that, no matter how motivated and persistent we are, we’ll never reach our goal.
So how do we know we’ve got the right goal?
I invite you to answer this question: “Does my goal make me happy? Do I get butterflies in my stomach just thinking about it?”
If the answer is yes, then you have an infinite reservoir of perseverance open to you.
But if the answer is no, then what’s the point of your goal? To be like everyone else? To avoid disappointment? To impress whom?
That’s why I wholeheartedly invite you to understand that a goal should be aimed at your joy, and only that, and only then will you be able to become more persevering.
2 – Have the right habits
Perseverance means never seeing giving up as an option. That’s why it’s essential to have good habits.
After all, habits are the pillars on which you can build your daily motivation, creativity and energy.
That’s why, to become more perseverant, set up habits that boost you.
Personally, every day :
I read, write and meditate to boost my creativity
I exercise to boost my motivation and energy.
Start with your first habit, the one you like best. Then adopt it for 30 days. Find the perfect moment in your day, the one that suits you best. Test it.
Then, after 30 days, add another habit and so on.
3 – Become more persevering: surround yourself with the right people
We are the sum of the 5 people we come into contact with the most. In other words, if you’re around positive, dynamic people, you’ll be positive. But the reverse is also true.
That’s why, to become more persevering, sort out the people around you.
Keep only the people whose conversations enliven you, and distance yourself from those whose conversations stress you.
What’s more, take advantage of the magic of the Internet to rub shoulders with positive people, coaches, trainers…
Surround yourself with positive words, with people whose journey you too wish to follow.
You can also find these people in books.
In fact, to become more persevering, it’s essential to know how to surround yourself with people and not stay alone!
4 – Visualize your ideal life
What could be more powerful for boosting perseverance than dreaming about your ideal life?
After all, it’s our dreams that guide us!
That’s why, to become more perseverant, I wholeheartedly invite you to take time out regularly (once a week at least) to dream about your ideal life.
To do this, sit down in a quiet, comfortable place and take 10 deep breaths.
Then answer this question: “And if I lived in an ideal world, what would I do? What would I do? Why? Who would I be with? How would I feel? What would I do on a daily basis to feel this way? What would my habits be? What would my work, my social life, my love life be like?”
And, take the time to dream about your ideal life. Immerse yourself in it: in your home, at work, with your family… Feel your emotions.
Put no limits on yourself and let your dreams guide you.
I do this every morning, before I go to work. It’s ideal for boosting my motivation and helps me to be more persevering!
5 – Become more persevering: simplify your life
Haven’t you noticed how often we tell ourselves that we’re running out of time, but never try to simplify our lives? To really simplify it.
In fact, when we take a closer look at the things we do, there are too many of them, and most of them don’t help us achieve our goals, and therefore our sense of happiness.
What’s more, these things don’t really make us happy; they exhaust us mentally, emotionally and physically.
In fact, if we can’t persevere with the goals that are important to us, it’s because we don’t have enough energy and we’re scattering ourselves all over the place.
So how can we simplify our lives?
First of all, I invite you to write down on a sheet of paper all the things you do in a week. Then, give them a score out of 5 according to what they bring you in terms of happiness and well-being.
Then, keep only the ones that are rated 4 and 5, and make sure you stop doing the others. For those you can’t afford to stop doing (housework, going to work…), find a way to do them in a different, happier way. Learn to delegate too.
Because becoming more perseverant means knowing how to focus your energy on what’s most important to you: your goals, your projects, your dreams!
6 – Invite joie de vivre
Too often, we approach our goals with the utmost seriousness. The problem is that it’s not doing things perfectly that gets us ahead, it’s doing them joyfully!
Indeed, when we tell ourselves that we have to do things perfectly, we put pressure on ourselves. In fact, it often prevents us from taking action.
So how can you do things with joy and become more persevering?
To do this, I invite you to take your good goal and list 10 different ways of achieving it.
Then, choose the action you like best.
Understand that there isn’t just one way to achieve your goal – there are as many different ways as there are people on earth. Find your way, the one that pleases you, the one that makes you happy!
7 – Set yourself small challenges
Perseverance must be cultivated on a daily basis! If you stay in your comfort zone for too long, it’s harder to get out!
That’s why I wholeheartedly invite you to boost your motivation and perseverance with little challenges.
Personally, I set myself a 30-day challenge every month. It’s both to keep me awake and to have fun.
After all, who says you can’t create your ideal life by having fun?
So, what kind of little 30-day challenges?
They can be sporting or even recreational.
Here are some of the little challenges I’ve set myself: meditate for 10 minutes a day, read, do 100 squats, walk 8 kilometers, learn Japanese, play the piano for 10 minutes, eat a vegetable at every meal, take care of my skin every day…
In fact, ask yourself what you’d like to learn or do. Then find a little rhythm, a little time and have fun!
These little 30-day challenges are really perfect for becoming more persistent!
8 – Becoming more persevering: learning to rest
Sometimes we get tired. It happens to everyone, every day. And, it’s okay to be tired.
But, being tired isn’t about abandoning your goal, it’s about resting. It’s just resting.
Indeed, when we’re tired, we tend to panic and say to ourselves “I’ll never make it”.
What if we learned to rest instead of giving up?
Because that’s what being more perseverant is all about: giving yourself a break and going back to work more motivated than ever!
That’s why I wholeheartedly invite you to learn to listen to yourself and give yourself a break when you need it.
Reduce your habits or put them on pause.
Personally, I prefer to reduce them. It reminds me of my 30-day challenge: do 200 squats every day. After 10 days, I couldn’t do any more (laughs), so I decided to cut back to 100.
Because the aim isn’t to go fast, the aim is not to give up!
That’s why becoming more perseverant means knowing how to listen to yourself and adapt to your current needs.
9 – Transforming impatience
Becoming more persevering means knowing how to transform your impatience. Sometimes, results are slow in coming.
So we lose patience, tell ourselves that all our efforts are for nothing, and want to throw in the sponges.
That’s why impatience is the enemy of perseverance.
So how do you deal with impatience and frustration?
I invite you to remind yourself CONSTANTLY why you do what you do.
Why is this goal important to you? What made you decide to go for it?
Write down your why(s) on a piece of paper and keep it with you at all times.
Reread it as soon as you feel the urge to give up.
10 – Be proud of yourself
For me, there’s nothing more important than being proud of yourself to become more persevering.
But we haven’t learned to be proud of ourselves. Quite the opposite. We’ve learned to see our faults, our weaknesses and to be ashamed of our mistakes and failures.
That’s why I wholeheartedly invite you to develop your sense of pride.
How can I do this?
In fact, we all make the same mistake when we decide to set goals to take charge of our lives and our happiness: that of only waiting for the moment when our goal is reached to rejoice.
Of course, that’s our goal in the first place.
But all that ground we’re about to cover, and are already covering, is so important.
It can be a source of joy and pride!
If only you’d concentrate a little more on yourself and the little steps you take every day. On all the little seeds you sow.
That’s why, to become more persevering, it’s essential to list all the small steps you’ve taken every night before going to sleep, and to feel a great sense of pride in yourself.
Because you’ll reach your goal, that’s for sure, as long as you never give up. But, in the meantime, focus on what you’re doing and be proud of yourself for persevering.
