Working on ourselves is essential if we are to understand that happiness lies not in the external circumstances of our lives, but within ourselves. But how do we do this? How can we become the best version of ourselves and find happiness? Here are 10 tips to try!
1 – Boost your self-confidence to do good work on yourself
Self-confidence is an essential resource for motivating us to take action and do the things that make us happy.
Indeed, to find happiness, we need a certain amount of courage, as it will require us to do certain things that set us apart from those around us, for which we may be noticed and therefore potentially criticized.
In other words, to become the best version of yourself, it’s essential to boost your self-confidence.
The first step is to realize that self-confidence can be built up, and that this is perfectly normal.
In fact, it’s not innate. You’re not born with or without self-confidence. It’s something that can be worked on with the right exercises.
But, above all, work on oneself begins with the certainty that this life is ours, that it belongs to us, that it’s up to us to make it as happy as possible, and that we are capable of doing so!
That’s why I invite you to meditate on this sentence until its truth takes root in you: “This life is mine and I’m passionate about it. I accept the challenge of living the life of my dreams.”
2 – Learning to manage your emotions
How can we become the best version of ourselves when anger, fear, sadness and jealousy constantly complicate our lives?
It’s all about learning to manage your emotions, and that means understanding them better.
Indeed, we often see emotions as an inconvenience, a source of shame or a problem.
But what if we saw them as they really are? In other words, as messengers.
Yes, emotions come to deliver a message. For example, anger tells us that we’re not happy with the situation, that we don’t feel respected, or that we’ve reached our limits. In other words, we’re invited to work on ourselves to change the external situation or, more often, to change the way we see things.
Fear tells us to take stock of our resources to make sure we’re ready to face a situation. In other words, we’re invited to work on ourselves to learn to ask for help, or to allow ourselves to give the best of ourselves, and to allow ourselves the possibility of failure.
That’s why it’s essential to learn to observe ourselves, to see what emotions are stirring within us, and to understand the message they are delivering.
In fact, the key to becoming the best version of ourselves is to understand that anger is not telling us to give in to violence, that fear is not telling us to give up… Quite the contrary!
3 – Set up new habits to become the best version of yourself
To work on ourselves, it’s essential to become aware of everything we do week after week.
After all, our most precious asset on Earth is our time. What do we do with our time? How do we use it?
All too often, we find ourselves doing things we don’t really enjoy, and then doing them again and again.
What’s more, too often we realize that we’re not doing what we should be doing to become the best version of ourselves.
We spend too much time distracting ourselves or doing things we don’t really enjoy.
That’s why I wholeheartedly invite you to take stock of what you’re doing, week after week, and put new habits in place.
To do this, write down on a sheet of paper EVERYTHING you did last week. Then, look at what you want to do, or what you can stop doing, so that you can set up new habits that will help you become the best version of yourself.
Remember, working on yourself starts with this realization: “My time is my greatest asset, and the quality of my life and well-being depends on how I use my time.”
4 – Take stock regularly to do a good job on yourself
It’s not uncommon not to allow ourselves to take stock of our lives. It’s as if we don’t want to know, or don’t allow ourselves to change things.
We say to ourselves, “This is just the way my life is.
And yet, to do good work on ourselves, it’s essential to allow ourselves to take stock, and therefore to ask ourselves this question: “What do I like about my life these days? And what don’t I like?”
And then: “What do I want to keep? What don’t I want to keep? And, how do I do that?”
Your life is your own, and you have the power to change things.
So, it’s not a question of turning into a tsunami and turning everything upside down, but rather of implementing small changes, small actions to move in a new direction.
In fact, to become the best version of yourself, it’s essential to focus on the positive changes you can make to your life, rather than focusing on the negative things you no longer want.
Move towards the positive. You’ll see the negative will disappear.
5 – Listen to your heart
Sometimes we listen too much to each other. Indeed, it’s not uncommon for others to set themselves up as experts and tell us how they think we should live our lives.
And, little by little, we stop trusting each other and listening to our hearts.
And yet, to become the best version of ourselves, everything starts with ourselves.
After all, who knows better than you what’s good for you?
So, to work on yourself, it’s essential to learn to listen to your heart.
To do this, learn to take time for yourself. To do nothing. Just to be present to yourself.
You can meditate, walk in nature… In fact, the aim is for you to calm down. Then you can listen to your heart, which will guide you towards your joy and happiness.
6 – Taking care of your body to work on yourself
Our body is a wonderful machine, but we spend a lot of time abusing it. Either because we don’t take care of it, or because we want it to be something other than what it is. So we criticize it, we hide it, we starve it, we twist it every which way.
That’s why working on yourself starts with a better relationship with your body.
This means getting back into exercise. You don’t have to go to the gym 3 times a week, but rather take up walking, do some stretching exercises… Something gentle for body and soul. In fact, the aim is to spend some time alone with our bodies.
Then we can gradually change the way we eat. To do this, observe your body: when is it in good shape? When does it have problems with fatigue or digestion?
Give it what it needs, when it needs it. Getting to know your body will take time, but there’s no hurry.
In fact, becoming the best version of yourself is a path to be followed with patience and perseverance. It’s not a sprint, but a gentle march that never stops.
What’s more, you can also review your postures at certain times of the day to ensure that your body is in the most comfortable position possible.
And, above all, take care not to inflict too much stress or too strong emotions on your body.
In other words, calm yourself often. Breathe consciously, relax your body consciously: “I breathe in calm. I breathe out tension”.
7 – Sort out your relationships
Working on ourselves also means sorting out our relationships. After all, our relationships have a real impact on our happiness. And, unfortunately, we all have relationships that are toxic.
What is a toxic relationship? A relationship in which you don’t feel free to be who you are, in which you’re careful about what you say and do, and in which you feel responsible for the other person’s happiness and mood.
In fact, to become the best version of yourself, it’s essential to seek only healthy relationships: relationships in which you feel free to be yourself, while letting the other person be free too, relationships in which everyone is responsible for their own happiness.
Because our relationships take up a lot of our time, and we don’t need to waste it on relationships that don’t really make us happy.
What’s more, to work on yourself, learn to make your relationships as happy as possible, in fact stop wasting your time in pointless arguments with the people you love.
Learn to let go. Learn to forgive.
8 – Sort out your goals to become the best version of yourself
We don’t always realize it, but we run after certain goals that don’t really make us happy, in fact that aren’t really us.
In other words, we chase goals because we think we have to: to have the perfect job, the perfect body, the perfect house, the perfect relationship…
Perfect, according to whom? The company? Those around us, our colleagues?
Indeed, working on ourselves and becoming the best version of ourselves also means sorting out our goals.
Do I like this goal? Does it resemble me? Does it bring me joy?
And, to give ourselves the right to remove goals that don’t suit us and don’t make us happy.
What we’re really talking about here is not doing what everyone else is doing, and not chasing after the same things for fear of being different.
Be yourself and set your own goals, the ones that make you happy!
9 – Learn to love yourself to do good work on yourself
Self-love is still a bit of a taboo subject. In other words, we shouldn’t love ourselves too much at the risk of appearing egocentric.
And yet, self-love is necessary.
How can you not love yourself?
Living on Earth is the greatest of miracles, so wouldn’t it be the worst waste of all to spend our time rejecting each other?
In other words, to do good work on yourself, start by learning to love yourself. To love yourself wholeheartedly.
There’s nothing egocentric about this love, quite the contrary in fact. Because the more you love yourself, your light and your flaws, the more you’ll love others, because you’ll see in them the same light and the same flaws.
In fact, to become the best version of yourself, it’s essential to understand that we’re not here to be better than others, but to love with all our heart.
10 – Learn to let go to do good work on yourself
Not everything depends on us. In fact, the external circumstances of our lives don’t really depend on us. We can, of course, take action to achieve certain results, but life will always throw in its two cents: positive and negative.
In other words, working on ourselves means learning to let go. It’s about giving the best of ourselves, doing the best we can, while accepting that life will throw in its two cents.
Ultimately, becoming the best version of yourself means finding happiness within yourself, rather than outside yourself.
Whatever happens, learn to remain calm and loving. Yes, the external circumstances of your life won’t always be pleasant, but as long as you remain calm and loving inside, you’ll always be happy.
Remember, do your best. Nothing more, nothing less.
