How To Stop Losing Your Temper: 4 Tips For Calming Down

Do you tend to get angry a lot? Anger damages both our relationships and our health. It exhausts those around us and our bodies. That’s why it’s high time we learned to be calmer. But how? Here are 4 easy ways to stop getting worked up.
1 – Get the rest you need to stop getting angry for no reason
Anger is an emotion that tells us that our limits are not being respected. The problem is that we often believe that it’s others who don’t respect them, whereas sometimes it’s ourselves who don’t respect them.
Yes, sometimes we don’t respect ourselves, especially our need for rest and calm.
To verify this, I wholeheartedly invite you to ask yourself this honest question: “Are you getting enough rest, or are you rushing around doing a thousand and one things every day?”
Of course we need to do things every day. After all, work and housework don’t get done by themselves (laughs), but if we were completely honest with ourselves, we might realize that we do too much, far too much.
That’s why I wholeheartedly invite you to take the time to rest well. Regularly. Whenever you feel the need.
In fact, as soon as you notice that you’ve been getting on your nerves a little too often over the past few days, that’s the signal for you to get some rest, and right away!
Because to stop getting angry is first and foremost to learn to respect yourself and take care of yourself.
2 – Take stock of the subjects that irritate us
There are issues that affect us, that affect our values, and whatever happens, whatever the angle, we get annoyed.
And that’s normal.
Our values are important to us. They’re lodged in the pit of our stomachs, and when they’re touched, we jump up and down, because we’re the protectors of our values.
And we protect them with our anger. Because when we touch our values, we don’t feel respected at all.
So how can we stop getting angry in spite of everything?
To do so, I invite you to take some time to list all the subjects that are close to your heart, all those subjects for which you regularly get angry.
Write them down on a piece of paper.
Once you’ve got all these sensitive subjects in your head, make sure you avoid them with people you can’t discuss with, and make sure you don’t listen to just anyone talking about them on TV.
Sort them out. Avoid certain conversations.
Do it for yourself! Because it’s time to realize that you can’t control what other people think, so let go.
That’s why you need to stop getting into heated arguments and accept that everyone thinks in their own way.
In fact, make the decision to preserve yourself and your relationships, because the most important thing is not to be right, but to be happy.
3 – Understand why some subjects irritate us more than others
Next, I invite you to go back to the list of subjects that tend to irritate you, those subjects that really touch you, that touch your values.
Then, ask yourself why you get angry about each of these subjects. Ask yourself what really makes you angry.
In fact, you may realize that you get angry because you have a need to control everything, or because you can’t let go of certain things.
Or maybe it’s because you’d like to do something, but can’t allow yourself to.
In other words, I invite you to delve into yourself to understand yourself better, because all too often our anger explodes onto others, because we feel powerless in the face of certain issues.
Either because we take responsibility for too many things in relation to a subject, or because we blame others, when we could be taking responsibility for certain things ourselves.
In fact, try to see more clearly what you think, what you want and what you can do to change the things that affect you personally.
Because anger is the energy of change. Indeed, when we feel anger, it’s because we have something to change.
Sometimes it’s about taking new action, sometimes it’s about thinking differently, and sometimes it’s about letting go of certain things.
It’s up to you to find out what makes you calmer.
4 – Breathe before speaking to stop getting angry too quickly
We often get angry too quickly, really too quickly (laughs).
And that’s a real shame. Fortunately, there’s a simple but truly magical trick: take a breath before you speak.
One inhalation and one exhalation.
So it’ll be weird at first, because we’ve developed a bad habit of rushing to speak.
Often, in fact, because we’re afraid of being interrupted.
And, well, in those cases, thank the people who have this annoying habit of interrupting others when it’s their turn to speak.
Thank them, because thanks to them, you’ll avoid getting angry and, above all, expressing your anger.
So take a deep breath and let your angry words subside to the rhythm of your breathing.
Remember this essential thing that can, and will, change your life: don’t try to be right, try to be happy.
After all, you’re not here to convince others, you’re here to live your life your way.
In fact, understand that we’re all different and that we all have different conceptions of what it means to live well.
Let go! It’s the best thing you can do for yourself and your relationships.

Anger: Taming a Powerful Emotion by Gary Chapman
The way Gary Chapman explains anger in this book is simple and easy, but effective in enabling people who face these problems to understand what to do and how to control their own emotions and anger problems. However, the way it does it doesn’t give you solutions to the problem. He gives you everyday situations and teaches you how to apply them.
I strongly advise this book
