Wanting To Change Your Life: 5 Tips For Successfully Changing Your Life

We all feel the need to change our lives at one time or another. We get bored or things don’t go as planned, so we need a change. And fast! Unfortunately, this “and quickly” leads us to fall into traps. That’s why I’m revealing 5 tips for successfully changing your life.
1 – Don’t rush when you want to change your life
When we come to the realization: “I want to change my life”, we often panic. We look back on our daily lives and our past, and all that comes back to us is the feeling that we’ve got it all wrong. This is not at all the life we want to live.
So, sometimes, we look for someone to blame. Others, with our desire to please them and conform to their expectations.
Unfortunately, looking for someone to blame only fuels our anger and frustration.
That’s why we want to act now, as if we were running away from a life that is definitely not ours.
Wanting to change your life sometimes feels more like running away than really thinking about how to build something better.
And that’s the trap to avoid. And why? Because you can’t build a new life on the negative.
“Everything we run away from, runs away with us.”
All the problems we’re running away from today will only follow us. To change our lives, we need to build them on the positive.
So let’s be careful not to rush away from what we no longer want in our lives. Instead, let’s think about how to live what we want.
2 – Don’t let yourself sink
Sometimes, when we want change, the opposite happens. Yes, instead of getting moving, even if it means running away from everything, we just don’t have the strength. And we let ourselves sink.
We say to ourselves: what’s the point in changing? It’s too late, or too hard.
We’re afraid to change our lives, and don’t feel up to it. Sometimes we even believe we don’t have the right.
However, when we feel the need for change, it’s because we really “need” it. And we need to find the strength within ourselves to see things through, not just pretend.
Indeed, it’s not uncommon to deny our need to change our lives, to pretend it doesn’t exist. Unfortunately, in the long run, we become irritable and aggressive.
3 – Calm down to make the right decisions
It’s perfectly normal to feel a strong desire for change when you realize that your daily life isn’t really satisfying or resembling you.
There’s a geyser of energy surging inside us, and we’d like to throw it all away and build something else, somewhere else, with someone else. Unfortunately, in doing so, we’re only displacing the problem.
Indeed, to change our lives, we need to build them on solid foundations.
And when we’re in the grip of a strong need to change our lives, we’re usually not thinking clearly. We suffer, we’re frustrated… That’s why it’s essential to calm down.
Here’s an exercise to help you see things more clearly and make the right decisions. Take a sheet of paper and a pencil and list the things you don’t like about the different areas of your life. Then list all the things you’d like to experience and feel.
This way, instead of focusing on all the things you can’t stand, you’ll be able to concentrate on what you’d like to see happen, based on something positive and solid.
Make these lists as often as you need to, while remembering to do things that make you smile on a regular basis, and remembering to confide in people you trust.
Remember that wanting to change your life is perfectly normal. There’s no need to look for those around you to blame, or even to feel guilty yourself.
In fact, every day we evolve and our needs change with it. You need to change, that’s normal, you’re alive!
4 – Keeping hope alive when you want to change your life
Sometimes, when we feel the need to change our lives, it brings to light all the bad choices we’ve made in the past. We feel a sense of waste and it overwhelms us.
I’d like to share with you a lovely sentence from the book that sums it all up:
“We’d start out full of hope, then come unforeseen events and trials we couldn’t avoid, but fortunately a little breath of luck would then bring us back safely, provided we didn’t let ourselves sink along the way.”
It’s perfectly normal to wake up with a desire to change our lives, and it’s perfectly normal to look at our past and see our mistakes.
Knowing yourself, knowing your tastes, finding the right job, finding the right partner are all lifelong quests.
Everything that makes up our past and our present is part of our understanding of who we are as a person. These are the steps that lead us to the day-to-day life that suits us and excites us. It’s perfectly normal to feel lost at times, but that’s no reason to give up.
Can we look back and remember all the failures and disappointments we’ve experienced and come through? Can we bring to light all the lessons we’ve learned that make us the person we are today?
Life isn’t a smooth ride. The person we are, our daily lives, the people close to us – we all evolve and change.
To want to change our lives is to roll up our sleeves and accept that we haven’t arrived yet. And accepting that we’ll never really be there.
5 – To want to change your life is to trust yourself
Sometimes, when we feel the need to change our lives, we don’t want to believe it. We want to hold on to what we have. We don’t want to make waves and disappoint others. As if we had a role to play!
Life isn’t always easy, because we’re social animals. We need other people. Our links with others make us happy, but also unhappy. Because, all too often, the gaze of others locks us into a role we can’t/won’t always play.
That’s why I wholeheartedly invite you to listen to yourself in these moments. Stop trying to appear perfect to others, and just try to be yourself.
To do this, I suggest you ask yourself one question regularly: What would I do if I listened to myself a little more?
