When To Quit Your Job: 5 Warning Signs

When should you quit your job? We’ve learned to adapt to what doesn’t suit us. Especially in the world of work. Indeed, it’s quite possible that you’ve heard all your life: Be happy, be glad you’ve got a job. But what do you do when things aren’t going well? Persist or listen? Here are 5 signs that it’s time to leave and change jobs.
1 – Quitting your job: when the stress is too much
In our modern society, we’d like to believe that stress is normal, that when we’re stressed, it’s because we’re living life to the full.
But what if it’s a lie?
I don’t think we’re here on earth to endure all this stress, to adapt to it, to conform to it.
So, if your job has been stressing you for a while now, stressing you so much in fact that by Sunday evening, just the thought of going back to work on Monday makes you sick with stress, then it’s time to change things.
Maybe you can find a solution to this stress, but if not, then choose yourself and get away from it.
In fact, allow yourself to imagine a stress-free working life: what would you need? What would you be doing? Who would you be working with? With whom? Why?
Then, sincerely ask yourself if your current job would allow you to live this stress-free professional life. If the answer is yes, make the necessary changes. If the answer is no, start imagining what you’d have to do to change jobs.
2 – When there’s boredom at work
Boredom at work, or bore-out, is increasingly under the spotlight. In fact, it’s possible that you’re one of those people who are no longer at all motivated by their work.
Because we spend most of our lives at work, and when our job ceases to be interesting to us, our whole life suddenly becomes less interesting.
In other words, it’s also possible that you don’t feel good about going to work in the morning.
So, to know whether it’s time to quit your job, you have to ask yourself this very honest question: am I or am I not bored at work?
So, maybe you can ask for new tasks, new missions, but if that’s not possible, you’re in a bind.
Understand that you have the right to want a job that you enjoy and in which you can really blossom.
In other words, don’t ask yourself to get used to boredom and allow yourself to dream of a more motivating professional life.
Start thinking and researching.
3 – Quitting your job: when there are toxic people in the office
More often than not, work requires us to rub shoulders with people who are very different from ourselves. Indeed, within the same office, there will be fast people, slower people, extroverts, introverts, talkative people, dissipated people…
And, of course, cohabitation is not always a happy, cheerful affair.
Unfortunately, there are some difficult personalities with whom you just can’t get along.
People who hurt our feelings in particular.
In this case, we have two choices: either we accept these people for who they are and make sure we don’t take what they say, do or think personally, or we can’t and have to leave.
Because often the problem is that we believe these people must and will change for us. But they won’t. Nobody is going to change for us.
So it’s up to us to change, or we can leave.
That’s why if you feel that some personalities are too toxic for you at the office, it’s time to quit your job.
4 – When you dream of changing jobs
We change over time. Our tastes, desires and dreams change. What’s more, our strengths and skills change too.
That’s why it’s normal to dream of changing jobs. To do something different, with different people.
But the problem is, we’ve scared ourselves into it. Yes, we’ve learned to fear the world of work: a difficult world in which there’s not enough room for everyone.
In other words, when you’ve got a job, you hang on to it.
And quitting your job is seen as a reckless act.
But when you dream of changing jobs, of discovering something new, what do you do?
It’s all about allowing yourself to listen.
Because we’re not here on Earth to be afraid of changing jobs. On the contrary, we’re here to learn, evolve, explore and grow.
So don’t get hung up on where you are; instead, give yourself permission to look elsewhere.
Follow and live your dreams. That’s what you’re here for.
5 – Quitting your job: when you have other offers
Sometimes we don’t want to move, but the Universe has decided otherwise.
In fact, our mission on Earth is to keep growing and learning, and that’s why the Universe pushes us around when we tend to adapt a little too much to our work.
So, we’ll start to see opportunities, proposals, or on the contrary, we’ll see doors close in our work, for no apparent reason. It may seem unfair, but it’s just the magic of the Universe at work.
So ask yourself honestly if you’ve been asleep for a while and if the Universe is waking you up.
Don’t be afraid. Any change is difficult at first, but after a while you’ll say to yourself: I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be.
In other words, follow the signs with confidence and serenity.
8 good reasons to dare to change jobs
I know that leaving your job can be scary, very scary even. So I’d like to give you 8 valuable reminders.
Because, in our society, we’re led to believe that the world of work is a hostile world in which you have to make do with what you’ve got, in which it’s not a question of being happy or not, but simply of doing what you have to do, no more and no less.
And if the world of work were, on the contrary, a joyful world in which it’s all about having fun, learning and growing all the time, what would you do differently?
Remember, the world is what we think it is.
So, why is it time to dare to change jobs?
Because:
You only get one life. In other words, you’re not here to be bored at your job, or to resign yourself to the fact that your job no longer appeals to you.
We’re changing. In fact, your tastes, desires, needs and dreams change. In other words, you may want to change jobs, and that’s normal.
Everything’s going to be fine. So stop listening to the negative thoughts that make you think you’re not up to the job. You are!
Your life is your own. That’s why don’t let other people make you think you’re selfish or unstable just because you want to change careers. It’s your life, and you can do what you like with it.
You have the right to be happy at work. It’s even your mission on Earth. So, if you feel the need for a professional reorientation, it’s because you need it.
There are no coincidences. If for some time you’ve been hearing talk of professional retraining, if you see a new job that you like more and more, it’s an intuition. Go for it!
You’re here to learn, explore and grow. You’re not here to stay in one place, doing the same thing over and over again. Take risks! Dare, try, make mistakes and try again!
Life is a path. You’re always moving forward. So stop treading water.

Quitter: Closing the Gap Between Your Day Job and Your Dream Job by Jon Acuff
Jon Acuff’s book tackles the question of when to quit your job, providing guidance on the transition from a day job to pursuing the career of your dreams. He offers practical advice, encouragement and a roadmap for those considering a career change. By exploring the balance between financial stability and personal fulfillment, this book serves as a guide for those contemplating a major career change.
I liked it enough to recommend it to friends and strangers, maybe even to buy a copy or two for my family, to lend my copy (but only if you promise to read it and return it to me within 72 hours…), and – most importantly – to read the book and apply its advice personally.
Thank you very much for reading this article.
