How To Find Your Vocation: 10 Questions For A Clearer Picture

Finding our vocation means finding our gift to the world. In fact, it means finding that action, that field that will enable us to offer the best of ourselves to others and to the world. But also to ourselves. Indeed, to find your vocation is to find yourself, and to give yourself the chance to connect with something greater than yourself. So, how do you find your vocation? Here are 10 questions to help you discover it.
1 – To find your vocation: what makes you the saddest or angriest?
Our emotions show us the way to our vocation. Indeed, they bring to light what really moves us, what we would like to see change in the world.
This can be sadness, but it can also be anger.
So don’t be afraid, and go out and meet your emotions.
I didn’t know this before embarking on the incredible adventure that is the “FullofHappiness” blog. And yet, for as long as I can remember, the thing that makes me the saddest is seeing sad people. Even as a child, I tried to cheer people up, and spent a lot of time trying to make things right between the people in my family. As time went by, I became increasingly angry when I saw someone unhappy, when I saw them closed in on themselves and struggling with their beliefs. I wanted to free her from all that, to change things!
So, what makes you sad? What makes you angry?
Take your time. Remember, there’s no hurry to find your calling. Life doesn’t ask you to go as fast as possible, it asks you to do things with awareness, love and joy.
You’re already in the right place, doing what you’re meant to do. If you’re reading this article, you’re already on your way. Breathe, life is the path, not the destination. You have nothing to prove, nothing to do, just to be. And, you’re already enough.
2 – If I were given a microphone to speak to people of my choice, what would I want to say? Suggest?
So, imagine you’re in a room. What would you like to see changed in the world, how would you like to participate in change, what would you like to propose?
Imagine receiving the people of your choice. Those who will be sensitive to your message.
In fact, finding your vocation means discovering the message you’d like to share with the world.
What would you like to say and to whom?
3 – To find your vocation: in my ideal world, what would I do day after day?
Finding your vocation also means finding the action or actions that bring you joy.
Because a vocation is joyful. After all, we’re not here to put pressure on ourselves and to vibrate with stress.
We’re here to vibrate with love and joy.
In other words, finding your vocation is very positive and puts you in a good mood.
Even if, in a sense, we’re here to “solve a problem”.
Let’s imagine that what makes you most angry is the way we treat the planet. Let’s say your vocation has something to do with ecology. You could easily slip into anger and frustration.
But that’s not what it’s about.
In fact, finding your vocation is all about finding the action or actions that enable you to change things, in a joyful and good-humored way.
What would you do in an ideal world if your vocation was to take care of the planet?
Would it be taking care of animals, cleaning up the oceans?
What would you actually do in an ideal world to fulfill your vocation?
For my part, my vocation is to help people be happier. I could focus on unhappiness and let myself be consumed by its darkness and the pain it causes, but I’ve made the choice to write weekly articles with love and joy, to create online programs with the most beautiful intentions. This is my contribution to my ideal world: I share happiness with the world, with others and with myself.
4 – What can I do without being paid to do it?
Finding your vocation doesn’t necessarily mean trying to do serious things and doing them seriously.
In fact, it’s essential to love what you do and put your heart and soul into it. That’s why it’s interesting to look for things you do for pleasure.
What do you like to do? What do you do for pleasure that you could even do without being paid to do it?
For example, let’s imagine that what you’d like to bring to the world is your help in making other people’s dreams come true. Yes, you want to help others move forward with their projects. And maybe what you like to do is calculate things. You love that. So maybe you could help others realize their dreams by being an accountant or treasurer…
For my part, I’ve always tried to make people happier, and I don’t like to see them suffer. And what I love is writing and spending my time on the Internet. I’ve always loved it, going on forums, blogs…
So, what do you like to do?
5 – To find your vocation: what actions make you forget the notion of time?
As with the previous question, to find your vocation, it’s interesting to look for actions that make you lose track of time.
In fact, embodying your vocation doesn’t mean doing things that are difficult for you to do, for which you need to motivate yourself.
Yes, there is something natural, a notion of pleasure, of joy even, in the quest for one’s vocation.
Of course, not everything will be obvious, and determination and perseverance will certainly be required, but for all that, the actions themselves are a joy.
It’s been years since I embarked on my mission to help people be happier, through blog posts and online programs. Years that I’ve been working, taking actions that I love, but that I’ve had to learn, with all the learning and lack of self-confidence that entails.
What’s more, the results have been progressive. At first, I helped one person, then two, then three. It took and still takes determination and perseverance, day after day.
But fortunately, when I’m writing articles, time stands still.
So, what do you do that makes you lose track of time?
6 – What makes me feel connected to something bigger than myself?
Finding our vocation means finding the moments when we feel connected to something greater than ourselves, moments of peace or joy, ecstasy even.
What makes you feel you’re in the right place, at the right time, doing the right thing? What’s the field? The specific action? The place, perhaps? Where do you feel you and more than that?
7 – To find your vocation: what am I really passionate about? What subjects can I talk about day after day without getting bored?
When it comes to finding your vocation, there’s almost a notion of rambling (laughs). What do you like to ramble about? What subjects? What experiences?
Or, what subjects do you like to read up on relentlessly?
On what subjects do you ask yourself questions?
8 – Am I regularly asked for advice on specific subjects?
Finding your vocation means paying attention to the subjects people usually ask you about. What do the people around you, your colleagues and friends, ask you about? Why do they come to you for comfort or motivation?
And if you haven’t yet been asked for advice, ask yourself: on what subjects would I like to give my opinion, offer advice, help others?
9 – If I put no limits on myself, in terms of money, time or qualifications, what would I like to do with my life?
Finding your vocation means giving yourself the freedom to live your dream life. Unfortunately, we tend to settle for what others or society want for us.
In fact, too rarely do we give ourselves permission to realize our dreams, or even to dream at all.
And that’s what finding your vocation is all about: giving yourself permission to dream your life.
So, if you put no limits on yourself, what would you do with your life? What would you do? What emotions would you feel? And what would you do to feel them?
How would you live your life? What would motivate you to get up in the morning?
Indeed, finding your vocation means giving yourself the right to live your dream life. It takes courage, determination and perseverance.
Tap into your inner courage. Let it guide you towards your vocation, your gift to the world.
10 – To find your vocation: what actions would you like to take to make the world a better place?
Finding your vocation and bringing it to life means not being afraid to ask the right questions. It means daring to want more, to do more, to be more. It’s daring to embody yourself fully and shine.
The goal is not success or wealth, but to take your place in the world. And we’re going to have to dare in this world that only asks us to fit into the mold and do what everyone else is doing.
So don’t be afraid to ask questions, big questions.
Then come back to yourself, to the here and now.
Indeed, your vocation may require you to take big actions, to take risks, to dare to do what you’ve never done or even imagined doing, but come back to the here and now.
Start small.
Don’t put pressure on yourself.
Let yourself be guided. Give yourself time to learn. Give yourself time to experiment.
You’ll experience failure, doubt and fear, but you’ll also experience joy, peace and love.
So ask yourself this question: what actions would I like to take to make the world a better place?
Yes, what could you do to make the world a better place? Remember, start small, be yourself every moment and cultivate joy. Follow it. It will guide you.
