How do you rebuild your life after a failure of any kind: professional, sentimental or, worse still, an overall failure? How do you get back on track when everything inside you is crying out: I don’t feel good in my life? Leave everything? Start all over again? I suggest you take care of yourself to rebuild your life.
1 – Reshaping your life: deciding it’s time to take care of yourself and your life
When we wake up one morning to make the sad observation: “I don’t feel good in my life”, it’s because at some point we stopped taking care of ourselves.
In effect, we’ve lost ourselves. Lost in our work, our daily lives, drowning in stress and obligations.
In other words, we stopped satisfying our needs as human beings! And today, it’s blowing up in our faces: we feel empty and our lives seem pointless.
My strategy for rebuilding your life is based on a single principle: take care of yourself, every day until the end of time.
Taking care of ourselves means moving forward in our lives without ever losing sight of our needs. And it’s by relying on our needs that we can build our future on solid foundations.
Self-care isn’t just about going for a massage once a year. No, it’s much more than that, but it’s not that complicated!
I invite you to ask yourself these questions every day: “How do I feel? And, what do I need to feel better?”
2 – Taking care of your body
To rebuild your life, it’s important to understand that we don’t just take care of our bodies at random. No, we need to invest time in it!
Time can always be found. In fact, we all have 24 hours a day, and it’s up to each of us to review our priorities and find solutions to ensure we have enough time to take care of our bodies.
I’d go even further: taking care of your body is both your right and your duty!
Yes, it is our duty! We’re the ones who nourish our bodies, and we’re the ones who decide whether or not to move them. It’s not going to give us the impetus, but as always, it’s going to do its best to accompany us wherever we want to go.
Playing sports
Let me reassure you right away, taking care of your body doesn’t necessarily mean going to the gym every day.
You can take care of your body by doing a bit of sport at home: 15 minutes a day of sheathing, stretching, yoga, skipping rope, brisk walking, light jogging, cycling… that’s all very well!
Because rebuilding your life means living a life in which you feel good about yourself. That’s why taking care of yourself is not an option!
And what about our diet?
Healthy eating is also a duty we owe to our bodies.
This can be done little by little. Let’s start by eliminating one fatty food from our daily diet.
Personally, I started with Nutella. There was a time when I ate it every morning. I’ve replaced the Nutella with a banana and I feel better in the morning.
Because rebuilding your life means understanding that if we don’t feel good about this wonderful machine that is our body, how can we feel good about our life?
3 – Rebuilding your life: taking care of your mind
Our mind is also a wonderful machine. Thanks to it, we can think, work… But we need to take care of it.
Yes, because the mind can sometimes get out of control.
In fact, all those thoughts, all those negative things we ruminate about others, the world around us and ourselves, poison our lives.
So how can we take care of our minds?
Get rid of ruminations to rebuild your life
First of all, to extract ourselves from our own negativity, we need to become aware of it. Are you in the habit of listening to your thoughts?
If not, can you spend 10 to 15 minutes every day: in the office, on the way home, in the morning, in the shower… listening to yourself! Ask yourself: “What am I thinking?”
Look at your thoughts, observe them.
Then decide that they’re just thoughts, that they have no power over you. To do this, I invite you simply to stop listening to them and concentrate on what you’re doing.
To do this, ask yourself this question: what am I hearing, feeling or seeing?
Because rebuilding your life on solid foundations means getting away from ruminations and living in the present moment.
Say nice things to each other
Take the time every day, 5 to 10 minutes, to reassure, motivate or congratulate yourself.
Ask yourself how you’re feeling and how your day went. Write down how you feel. If you’re sad, comfort yourself; if you’re happy, congratulate yourself. In fact, react the way a friend would react to what you tell them about your day.
Because rebuilding your life on solid foundations means knowing how to say nice things to each other, how to encourage and congratulate each other.
4 – Taking care of your relationships
How do you remake your life? By seeing the good in others around us.
Indeed, we tend to see the faults rather than the qualities, whether in others or in ourselves. What if we stopped hurting ourselves?
So let’s be more kind to others and to ourselves. How can we do this? How?
Accept that others aren’t perfect, and that we aren’t either.
Let’s understand that others don’t have to meet our expectations and needs, let alone guess at them.
Let’s be responsible for our own happiness and choose to see others for the simple pleasure of their company.
Let’s stop judging them and ourselves. Let’s breathe calmly and smile.
We need others to be happy, but not to meet our expectations.
So let’s stop thinking too much, expecting too much, judging too much, and let’s relax and take only the good.
5 – Remaking your life: nurturing your dreams
Because to rebuild our lives on solid foundations, we need to take a step towards our dreams every day.
Yes, let’s take a small step, just one. Because to be happy, to live a life worth living, we need to feel we’re moving forward and improving.
In other words, we need goals, dreams to achieve. But we’re not going to chase after them like mad, because then we’ll run the risk of once again experiencing a sense of failure and frustration. No, we prefer to move forward slowly, but surely.
Do you know what your goal is today? What’s your dream? What makes you tick? It doesn’t have to be anything extraordinary.
Just ask yourself this question and take the time to answer it.
Then take a step towards your dream every day. It can be as simple as doing some research, sending an e-mail, reading 10 pages of a book…
Because life isn’t about succeeding, it’s about moving forward and improving. In other words, make the most of every little step you take, enjoy it and congratulate yourself.
6 – Redo your life: take care of your soul
Because rebuilding your life on solid foundations means always having one word at the end of your lips: “Thank you!”
Thank you is a magical word. Indeed, thanks to it, we taste the power of gratitude.
Yes, we are responsible for taking care of our bodies, our minds, our relationships and our dreams. Yes, we are masters of our own ship, but not only that… We are also accompanied by the Universe.
You know all those things that seem to fall from the sky: melodious birdsong, a magnificent sunset, a forest vibrant with life and the stars? A starry sky is just fabulous.
It’s important to feel transcended by all the wonderful things life has to offer, like the laughter of a child, the smell of a freshly baked cake, the beauty of a loved one, a rainbow…
Yes, to rebuild our lives on solid foundations, we need to stop and reflect on all those moments of wonder that punctuate our daily lives, and feel with all our heart and soul this phrase: “Thank you for this moment, thank you for being here, thank you for being alive.”
