What if it were possible to find one’s life mission in complete serenity? Because yes, this question, which more and more of us are asking, is a major source of stress. We’d like to know, right now, and above all, we’d like it to change everything! So, here are 5 tips to help you discover your life mission smoothly.

1 – Understand that we don’t talk about utility when we want to find our life mission.

When we want to find our life mission, we often think of the word “usefulness”.

How can my life be useful? How can I be useful to the world and to others?

And that’s when the pressure mounts!

And yet, who said that finding one’s life mission meant finding one’s usefulness? Who said we should be useful in this life? Who even said that life should be useful?

So let’s take a breath and close our eyes for a moment. Let’s go down into the quietest part of our body.

And, from this position of calm, let’s ask ourselves this question: do I have to be useful to have my place on earth?

Life doesn’t ask us to be useful, it asks us to be happy, to experience joy and love.

It is we, our society and our rational mind, who have invented the concept of “usefulness”.

But we don’t have to be useful. We have to do what makes us happy, and that’s quite different.

So, when you ask yourself “What is my life’s mission”, ask yourself: what do I like to do? What do I want to do to be happy?

2 – Understand that we’re not talking about wealth or success

Too often, when we want to find our life mission, we think about work. And that’s perfectly normal.

Yes, when you think about it, in the society we live in, we spend most of our time working, so inevitably when we’re looking for our life mission, we’re looking for a job.

What’s more, as in our society, we correlate happiness with being rich and famous, so we tend to do the same with life mission.

What if you took a few moments to go back inside yourself, to the very depths of your being? Take a breath and close your eyes.

Ask yourself: does my life mission have to lead me to wealth and success? Do I have to have lots of money and recognition to be happy?

Life doesn’t ask us to be rich and famous, because it places no conditions on our happiness.

Of course, we can be happy that way, but we can also be happy in other ways.

So when you ask yourself “What is my life mission?”, don’t assume that it’s a job you’re looking for.

Think smaller than that. And maybe, in time, it will become a job. Who knows?

In the meantime, don’t put any pressure on yourself and don’t make your happiness in the here and now depend on a job that should bring you wealth and fame.

3 – Understand that we’re not even talking about passion when we want to find our life mission.

So, if we’re not talking about work, we might think we’re talking about a passion, a hobby.

But our life mission isn’t even that. It doesn’t have to be.

Once again, I invite you to return to yourself and calm down.

Do you believe that your happiness depends on a passion that you must discover at all costs, or else you’ll never know your life’s mission?

Once again, life places no conditions on your happiness. You can be happy with or without passion. You can love doing one thing, or a thousand and one different things.

So when you ask yourself “What is my life’s mission”, don’t even look for a passion that will define you.

4 – Appreciate the present moment

But what if it’s not? What if my life’s mission is neither useful, nor a job, nor a passion? If it doesn’t make me rich or famous? Then what is it?

When we want to find our life mission, we’re looking for that thing, that action, that state that makes us feel aligned and fulfilled. In fact, what we’re looking for is our happiness.

And why is that? Because our society regularly instills a dose of dissatisfaction and doubt in our minds, inviting us to believe that we’re not enough.

Not happy enough, not useful enough, rich enough, famous enough, passionate enough.

We’re led to believe that life, that being here on earth, is a very complicated thing, and that it all comes down to one big quest: finding your life mission.

What if we went back to something much simpler?

Close your eyes and take several deep breaths. How does your heart respond to this? Does it leap into your chest at the idea that yes, maybe, life is simple?

Because life is all about one thing: being happy here and now.

It’s about being able to see the magic around us, in ourselves and in what we do.

Ultimately, our life mission could be simplified to one action: appreciating the present moment.

5 – Listen to your heart to find your life mission

Yes, but what if we don’t feel good here and now? What if we don’t like our work, our home, our life in general?

Fortunately, life has given us a magical gift: a little voice that guides us towards what we like to do, towards what brings us joy. It resides in our heart.

Unfortunately, in our society, we haven’t learned to trust our intuition; worse, we’ve learned to distrust it, preferring to listen to our rational minds.

Yes, in our lives, we make choices of reason rather than choices of the heart.

That’s why we end up asking ourselves the question: “What is my life’s mission?”, because we put so much pressure on ourselves to be useful, rich and famous. Yes, we spend too much time thinking about what we should or shouldn’t do.

In other words, we’ve learned to think and conform.

Whereas life invites us to feel and experience.

In fact, life doesn’t ask us to do things well or to be serious. On the contrary, it asks us to be like children, to make mistakes, to learn, all in joy. Yes, joy!

We’re here to be overflowing with the joy of life.

So stop taking yourself and life so seriously. And stop asking yourself, “What’s my mission in life?

Instead, ask yourself “What do I want to do right now to be happy?”

Follow your joy, it’s a sign that you’re listening to your heart.
