What to do when you wake up in the morning? How do you start the day off on the right foot? Because stress starts in the morning. That’s why I’m sharing with you the 10 things you shouldn’t do to have a good day and leave for work smiling and happy!
1- What to do in the morning: stay off social networks!
As soon as we wake up, many of us turn on our phones to check for new posts on every possible social network.
So, not even out of bed, we focus on what’s going on in other people’s lives, fanning our need to possess and sometimes even our feelings of jealousy.
What to do when you wake up in the morning? Leave the phone on the bedside table and don’t touch it.
What’s the point? To refocus on yourself, your life, your home, your body, your mind and your heart. Yes, all of the above.
In fact, we don’t always realize it, but we’re so focused on what’s going on with others that we forget to see what’s going on at home and within ourselves.
So, when you wake up in the morning, take the time to wake up, stretch to feel your body, take the time to wander around your house, in fact take the time to fully embody yourself in your own life!
When you wake up in the morning, smile and see how lucky you already are. Instead of focusing on everything you don’t have yet.
2 – Watching the news on television
We’re not used to silence, because our lives are full of street noise and chatter. So, when we wake up in the morning, silence scares many of us.
So, mechanically, we turn on the television, and our ears, minds and hearts are assailed by heaps and heaps of bad news.
What do you do when you wake up in the morning? What if, instead of ruining your day with bad news, you replaced that noise with music that pleases and relaxes you?
To be happy, it’s important to replace our bad habits with better ones.
You don’t like silence? That’s okay. But in those cases, find some music or a show that invites you to smile and see the good things in life.
3 – Review the day’s schedule for the 10th time
Are you one of those people who, as soon as they wake up, think of all the things they have to do during the day that hasn’t even started yet? I recognize myself in that (laughs).
In fact, we’re always thinking of possible solutions to speed things up and save time.
Unfortunately, thinking about the day’s schedule opens the door to stress.
What to do when you wake up in the morning? Seizing the moment is a good idea!
But how do you go about it? When you wake up in the morning, replace your schedule with the incredible realization that you’ve just received a new day as a gift.
To remind yourself, write it down on a post-it note and put it on your bedside table.
You’re alive, and that’s wonderful! Your day will start soon enough, so take a few moments to just live in the moment. Breathe, stretch, smile, enjoy a hot drink, listen to some music you like… The possibilities are endless!

4 – What to do in the morning: take care of your body
Our bodies are incredible machines. In fact, while we sleep for several hours during the night, it continues to function: it breathes, digests, regenerates and this requires fuel.
Unfortunately, it’s not uncommon to completely forget to fuel our bodies in the morning.
What should we do when we wake up for a happy morning? Give our body what it needs: at the very least, a glass of water.
After all, we become dehydrated during the night. So, a glass of water and we’re off again.
To be happy, we need to rethink the way we look after our bodies. It’s always been our best partner. Without it, we wouldn’t be here.
What’s more, we don’t know how our day is going to go, so the morning is the perfect time to give ourselves a moment and indulge. So treat yourself to a breakfast that makes you feel good.
5 – Curl up on the sofa
When we wake up in the morning, we’re sometimes short of energy, which is why our sofa seems so tempting. However, we realize that once we’re on the sofa, we feel increasingly tired.
What should we do when we wake up in the morning? How about moving around a bit?
A few stretches, a few dance steps or a short walk will do the trick.
After all, our bodies need to move to wake up properly.
6 – Thinking about yesterday’s mistakes
Our eyes are barely open and we’re thinking about what happened the day before. Indeed, we torture ourselves with “Why did I say that?” “Why didn’t I do that?”.
And that’s how stress comes in!
What should you do when you wake up in the morning to be happy? It’s essential to take a moment to forgive ourselves for yesterday. We did our best, nothing more, nothing less.
In fact, we need to stop trying to be perfect, and stop blaming ourselves when we wake up in the morning because we’ve made mistakes.
Today is a new day!
7 – What to do when you wake up in the morning: Don’t imagine the problems of today and tomorrow!
Maybe you’ve heard of those famous “What ifs?
What if things don’t go well?
What if I can’t do it?
Or what if I’m late?
What can I do in the morning to be happy? It’s urgent to let go! To let go of everything that could happen and simply focus on what’s happening right now.
And what’s happening? You’re barely awake, maybe even still in bed, and already you’re imagining all kinds of problems? No, I’m not!
Take a few moments to breathe and refocus. It’s morning, and this is the time to prepare yourself calmly and joyfully for the day ahead.
That’s why take advantage of this moment to recharge your batteries with pleasant, positive things, so you’ll have as much energy as possible to face the day ahead.
8 – Giving feedback to those around us
In the morning, we’re sometimes already so on edge that we throw remarks at the people around us.
What should we do when we wake up in the morning to feel happy? How about sending good vibes and love to the people around us?
How about replacing “hurry up” with “I love you”?
I wholeheartedly invite you to make yourself a promise: always say at least one kind word to the people around you before you leave the house in the morning.
After all, it’s good to remember that the people around us aren’t eternal and neither are we, so it’s essential to remember to express our love every day.
9 – Thinking of others without thinking of ourselves
It’s not uncommon for us to put ourselves first thing in the morning at the service of others. We think about one person’s homework, another person’s breakfast, and what about us?
What do we do when we wake up in the morning? Just take a few minutes to think about ourselves.
If we’re so stressed and tired, it’s because we all too rarely take time out for ourselves.
Unfortunately, we need it badly, and so do others. Indeed, there’s nothing more difficult than living alongside someone who’s constantly under pressure.
So, for yourself and for the people around you, take a few minutes in the morning to ask yourself one question: what do I need this morning to feel good?
10 – Make a point of doing useful things
There’s nothing worse than waking up in the morning and feeling pressured to start ticking off your To-Do List.
That’s not what mornings are for. In fact, the morning is a time for yourself, to awaken your body, mind and heart to gentleness. It’s a break between the night and the day ahead.
No need to spend hours. Just a few minutes.
What to do when you wake up in the morning? One rule: don’t do anything useful. Only do things that nourish us and make us feel good.
Remember: the goal in the morning is to slam the door and start the day in the best possible mood!
