Feeling Lonely: 4 Tips For When You’Re Feeling Lonely

Sometimes we feel lonely, very lonely. The feeling of loneliness comes crashing down on us. So what do we do in those moments? Here are 4 heart-warming tips to help you stop feeling isolated.
1 – See loneliness as a signal
When we suffer from a feeling of loneliness, we have two choices: we can let it consume us whole, drag ourselves to the sofa and lament our fate.
Or, we can choose to see the feeling as a signal.
So, of course, I’m exaggerating.
Because suffering from a feeling of loneliness is terrible. It’s a feeling that totally crushes us.
But, when we’re sitting on that sofa, lamenting our fate, we can listen to that little voice that says: “Aren’t we going to stay here like this?”
And if we choose to follow that little voice, then seeing that feeling of being alone as a signal is magical.
Indeed, it’s possible that we’ve been letting problems, stress, routine and fatigue take up more and more space in our lives for some time now.
It’s possible that we’ve been spacing out meals with family and friends. In fact, we may have turned in on ourselves, but enough is enough.
And that feeling of loneliness that’s crushing us right now is the signal to change things!
So, how can we change things?
2 – Meet others, step by step, to stop feeling alone
In fact, when we’re feeling lonely, it’s worth taking a moment to ask ourselves where we can meet people with whom we might get on well.
Start with the things you like to do.
Do you like reading like I do? Do you like sports, playing an instrument, gardening or cooking?
If you’re not sure, what would you like to discover and learn?
And if you really can’t meet people face-to-face, go and meet them on the Internet.
Finally, that feeling of loneliness which, until a few seconds ago, was crushing you with all its weight, becomes an opportunity to get out of your cocoon and meet other people, around a subject that particularly speaks to you.
Because, please understand, your feeling of loneliness isn’t telling you: “You’re right to feel alone. Not at all. On the contrary, it’s telling you: “It’s time to get out of your cocoon and meet other people!
So take a deep breath and go for it.
3 – Stop using social networks to avoid feeling even more lonely
So, sometimes, the feeling of loneliness also reminds you to stop being too much on social networks and to stop idealizing other people’s lives.
In fact, on social networks, you only see a tiny part of other people’s lives, and often the best part.
So don’t assume that these others are with their friends and families all the time. Don’t think they’re surrounded only by good people…
Because you’re hurting yourself.
That’s why I wholeheartedly invite you to stop torturing yourself and making your feelings of loneliness more and more overwhelming.
To do this, turn everything off!
Take a breath.
And, start doing research to meet “real” people around you, around a shared passion.
4 – Remember the people you already have in your life
Also, go less to social networks and more to the people already in your life.
Suggest an activity, make a phone call, just like that for no reason.
Communicate! Get closer to the people around you.
Because, often, you think you’re alone, when you’re not. It’s simply that you’ve let your heart close in on itself.
So dust it off and love the people who are already in your life.
