How To Develop Patience: 6 Helpul Tips

Patience can completely change our lives. In fact, being patient allows us to better manage stress and have healthier, zen-like relationships with others. In other words, developing patience means a better quality of life. But how do you go about it? Where do you start? Here are my 6 helpful tips to help you learn patience. It’ll transform your life!
1 – Remember the benefits of patience
It’s important to know why we do things. Indeed, it’s having the goal in mind that enables us to make the effort and persevere in our endeavours. In other words, when it comes to developing patience, it’s essential to regularly remind ourselves of how patience will transform our lives.
The biggest changes that patience can bring to our lives are: reduced stress, better decision-making, improved relationships due to greater tolerance, greater self-control and a better quality of life.
I wholeheartedly invite you to take note of these major changes on a sheet of paper and to reread them at least once a week. Because when you reread this list, your motivation will soar and you’ll persevere in your efforts! In other words, this list is very powerful, so what are you waiting for?
2 – Identify triggers and find solutions to develop patience
What are the times when you lack patience the most? What are the situations where you most need to develop patience? Take a sheet of paper and list everything. Go through all the areas of your life: work, family, friends, everyday life… Everything!
Take the time you need to make this list, because it will be precious to you. And, once you consider that you’ve come full circle: for each point you’ve listed, find at least one solution to develop your patience.
In other words, come up with solutions. You can do it! I wholeheartedly invite you to make this 2-step list carefully. Because it will be your main support in this exciting, but not always easy, work on yourself.
3 – Practicing mindfulness and meditation to develop patience
One of the best tools for developing patience is, of course, mindfulness. But what is mindfulness? It’s the art of being present to what’s happening. To practice, take advantage of the simplest moments in your daily life. The moment you brush your teeth, the moment you drink your coffee, for example.
During these key moments in your day, concentrate on what you’re doing. In other words, don’t lose yourself in your thoughts, be present to what you touch, smell, see, taste and hear.
This mindfulness exercise is a real breath of well-being in our daily lives, and what’s more, it helps you develop patience. So what are you waiting for? Choose your first key moment and start practicing today!
You can also learn patience by learning to meditate. For example, you can start by setting yourself the goal of meditating for at least 5 minutes every day. Sitting down every day and concentrating solely on your breathing will go a long way towards making you more patient in your everyday life. What do you think?
4 – Work on your expectations and learn to accept and let go
What do you expect from others and from life? What are you not getting that’s making you lose patience? Understand that if you lack patience, it’s because you have far too many expectations of others and of life in general.
But living isn’t about waiting, it’s about accepting what is. That’s why you need to learn to accept and let go. It’ll do you a world of good!
To begin with, make a list of the things you expect from others and from life. Be honest, but don’t judge yourself. It’s normal to have expectations, but you mustn’t let them spoil your life. And to do that, we have to learn to let go of our expectations as soon as they become necessary.
In fact, little by little, learn to accept others as they are: their faults and their differences. Stop expecting them to do this or be that. Accept who they are and let go of what you’d like them to be.
Start with the first person around you. And so on. It really will change your life, making it more beautiful and peaceful, so what are you waiting for?
5 – Have mantras to help you develop patience
Personally, to cultivate patience, I rely heavily on mantras. For example, when I start to feel impatient, because the clock is ticking and stress is mounting, I repeat to myself: “I’ve got time”, and it does me a world of good.
Then, when I feel frustration or anger rising, because so-and-so is doing this or that, I repeat to myself: “I accept and let go”.
And when I’m doing something and it’s not going at all according to plan and I feel like I’m wasting an awful lot of time, I say to myself: “I’m in the right place doing the right thing”, and that helps me to be more patient.
So, what mantras could help you develop patience? Take a sheet of paper and list at least 3 mantras that appeal to you. You’ll see, it’s magic!
6 – Learn from every situation and failure
I’ve noticed that patience is most often developed through failure. In other words, don’t take advantage of your failures to give up, telling yourself that you’re definitely not cut out for patience. You’re not. You’re learning to be, and that’s what counts.
So, with all your heart, be persistent and patient with yourself. You can do it. Give yourself this life-changing gift. What do you think?
