How To Savor The Present Moment And Be Happy: 8 Great Tips

Being happy means knowing how to anchor yourself in the present moment and stop worrying about everything. But how can we savor the present moment? In other words, how do we manage to unplug our brains from thoughts full of stress and anxiety? Here are my 8 great tips to learning how to be happy in the here and now. You’ll love it!
1 – Make do with what you have rather than what you lack
Yes, there are things missing from our lives. Not all our needs are fully satisfied. So we chase after things, people, goals, disappointed dreams… Without realizing that we’re ruining our lives.
In fact, to be happy in life, you have to make do with what you’ve got! But that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t try to satisfy our unmet needs, reach for new goals and realize new dreams. It doesn’t.
But making do with what you’ve got means knowing when to let go of regrets and remorse. It means understanding that we can’t have everything in this life, and that this is normal.
And that’s why savoring the present moment is the best way to be happy in life. Because we stop focusing on everything we don’t have yet, and may never have, and concentrate instead on what we do have. What do you think?
2 – Stop wanting the things you can’t have
We don’t know how to savor the moment, and therefore be happy in life, because we can’t stop wanting things we can’t have.
So maybe it’s time for you, right now, to take a deep breath and sort out your desires, projects and dreams. Because you can’t have everything. Indeed, there are things you can’t do, for example, because of your physical condition. There are also things you can’t have, because they’re simply impossible.
Accept this reality: you can’t have everything. And when you stop wanting things you can’t have, you’ll start wanting things you can have. And your life will become sweeter and happier. So, what are you waiting for?
3 – Live within the limits of the present
The art of savouring the present moment requires acceptance and perhaps even renunciation. Because yes, we do have limits. But, for all that, it’s because we desire things we can’t have that we talk about renunciation.
And yet, if we could learn to desire things better, we wouldn’t be talking about renunciation, but about peace and joy. In fact, understand that most of the time, it’s you who’s preventing yourself from being happy, with impossible desires. So, sort out your desires by accepting to live within certain limits of your present.
4 – Knowing how to rejoice and savour the present moment
Once you’ve appeased your desires, then something wonderful will happen: you’ll become aware of all the things that already surround you. In fact, you’ll become aware that you’re already living a life of abundance, but your mind was simply so busy getting frustrated that you couldn’t rejoice in what you already had in your life.
Because that’s what savouring the present moment is all about: choosing to rejoice in the joys already present in your life.
5 – Take short breaks to savour the moment
Savouring the present moment is an art we’ve never been taught. Instead, we’ve grown up learning to worry a lot about the future and to always hurry, because time flies.
That’s why, to anchor ourselves in the present moment, we need to create a whole new habit. Take 3 breaks during the day. One in the morning, one in the afternoon and one in the evening. To think about it, set 3 different alarms on your phone.
Then, when your phone rings, take a short break. Just long enough to take 10 deep breaths. Close your eyes and concentrate on your breathing and the present moment. You’ll see, it’ll do you a world of good.
6 – Have a mantra to remind you to savour the present moment
We live our days at a hundred miles an hour, which is why the art of savoring the present moment seems so inaccessible. So I invite you to adopt a mantra to repeat to yourself throughout the day.
My favorite mantra is “I’m in the right place doing the right thing”, because it helps me refocus my attention on the present moment, rather than all my thoughts worrying about the “after”. In fact, this mantra reminds me that the most important thing is what I’m doing in this moment, here and now. And really, I feel much better instantly. Why don’t you try it yourself?
7 – Start a gratitude journal to rediscover the joy of living
It’s not always easy to focus on what you have rather than what you don’t have. Because it’s hard to be happy when you feel you have every reason in the world to grumble.
In fact, understand that you can control your thoughts, that you must control your thoughts. Grumbling isn’t natural or healthy, it’s just a bad habit. So remove this harmful habit from your life. Replace it with a gratitude journal.
Every day, and even several times a day, make a list of the 3 things that make you feel grateful right now. It’s one of the most powerful ways to savor the present moment. What do you think?
8 – Create a new ritual with family and friends
Another way to savor the present moment is to share your joys with those around you. Close, because it’s not always easy to share your joys with everyone. Indeed, in our society, it seems more acceptable to complain than to rejoice. We need to be noisy in our unhappiness and discreet in our happiness. Stop!
