We Don’T Care And It Feels Good: 15 Ways To Say Goodbye To Guilt

Those 4 words “We don’t care” hold an immense blessing. Yes, we don’t care about so many things, because too much is too much. Our daily lives are full of rules, obligations and constraints. We say yes to everything. We’re done! It’s time to say goodbye to guilt. Here are 15 different ways to do it!
1 – Who cares if you’re beautiful?
I’m fed up with these magazine beauty standards. But who said that a beautiful body was like this rather than that? It’s crazy that whatever body we have, we want it to be the opposite of what it is.
I’ve got straight hair, I want it to be curly. My girlfriend has curly hair, they want it straight.
What’s the big deal? We don’t want to be happy, do we? Yes, we do everything we can to hate what we have and idealize what we don’t have.
It’s time to accept ourselves. Accept the color of our skin, accept our hair, our thinness or our plumpness, right down to our oddly shaped toes.
Life’s far too short to waste our time curling our straight hair or hiding our knees because they don’t look right. Stop! A knee is a knee!
2 – and to be intelligent
Today, we’re still being asked how much is 6 multiplied by 7. Uh… but I completely forgot, so what?
The name of the president of such-and-such a country, the capital of what’s-his-name, the curve of the stock market… well, I don’t know.
But am I stupid?
Today, we’re told that being intelligent means knowing this rather than that. Once again, intelligence has been standardized. By whom? Who had this right?
No, intelligence is multiple. Intelligence is free. No one has the right to dictate what we should or shouldn’t know.
So who cares if we don’t know the answers to other people’s questions? Everyone is free to be interested in what they want, and you don’t have to conform to other people’s interests.
3 – Who cares what so-and-so thinks?
So-and-so thinks you shouldn’t dress like this, that you should talk like this, work this way, raise your kids this way… Who cares!
Who says there’s one right way to do everything in life? Who has that right?
You’re free to do it your way
Don’t listen to others. Do what pleases you most, do what your heart tells you to do. Your heart is your best guide.

4 – Who cares about being perfect?
Nobody’s perfect! Besides, what is perfect? What’s perfect? Where does this idea of perfection come from?
Is doing perfect in relation to yourself, or in relation to others?
Because if you want to be perfect in the eyes of others, it’s impossible. After all, everyone is different, likes different things and does things differently. So it’s time to accept that you’ll never fully satisfy anyone. Yes, you’ll never be the perfect person for someone.
And even for you, you’ll never be perfect in your own eyes. Because, every day, you grow, you evolve and you learn. You’re not perfect, and that’s fine.
5 – and make a mountain out of a molehill
Today, we’re almost ashamed to say: I’m not doing anything, I’m just sitting at home.
Yes, today you need mountains of things, and cool things at that.
You want to live life at a thousand miles an hour, go for it. But if you don’t, don’t force yourself.
We don’t care if you do a thousand and one things, just do what you feel like doing.
6 – Who cares if you buy the latest fashions?
Modern society has a talent for making us want to buy unnecessary things.
It’s time we realized this.
Because, by creating unnecessary needs, we create unnecessary pressure. Indeed, if we want to be able to buy all the latest fashions, we’re going to have to work, and work hard and long!
Whereas if we didn’t give a damn, we could just enjoy life!
It’s up to us to make our own choices.
7 – Who cares what’s on the news?
Aren’t we tired of being intoxicated by the news?
With the news, it’s simple: everything’s going wrong. You don’t have to watch it every day. It’s the same thing all the time.
And yet, if we were a little more interested in what’s really going on around us, we’d see a whole lot of good news among those around us. Or maybe we’d see some bad news, but we’d have some solutions to offer, or at least some comfort.
But what if we didn’t care?
8 – Who cares if you’re talented?
Today, we confuse talent with performance. Yes, it’s all about being the best at something. So, we work ourselves to the bone in search of our talent.
Being talented isn’t about being the best at something. Talent is loving to do something with all your heart. Yes, it’s something we love to do, something that makes us shine with happiness. That’s what talent is.
We don’t give a damn about performance, about being better than others. It serves no purpose except to put unnecessary pressure on yourself.
9 – and do everything right
Today, we’re expected to be the perfect wife, the perfect husband, the perfect friend, the perfect brother, the perfect aunt, the perfect employee… STOP!
Why don’t we forget all that and just be us?
Too often, we identify ourselves by behavior. Yes, we fit into boxes, we adopt gestures without question.
And then, one day, it gets too tight and we suffocate inside.
It’s high time we stopped. You don’t have to be perfect, just do what you want to do with joy and love. Nothing more, nothing less.
10 – Who cares what other people do?
Too often, we look left and right, we look at what others are doing, we compare ourselves, we copy.
This wouldn’t be a problem if we did it simply to explore, experiment, see if we like it or not.
Unfortunately, we only do it so as not to be different, just to be like the others. We don’t ask ourselves whether we like it or not. We just do it.
But our hearts are not fooled.
What if we don’t care what others do?
11 – and not to like the same things as others
Today, it’s very difficult to say that we don’t like what’s fashionable. We feel we have to justify ourselves, and we clearly don’t have the energy for that.
But you don’t have to justify yourself. You have the right to say: I like it and I don’t like it. That’s up to you.
Don’t force yourself to like something you don’t, or to pretend not to.
On the contrary, admit what you like and you might be surprised.
12 – Who cares if people change?
Everything in life changes, so why are we so unsettled when a friendship or love ends?
People change and that’s normal. Everything changes.
Why waste our time lamenting. Yes, it hurts.
The other is free. You’re free too.
Happiness is within you, not with the other. Keep moving. Be curious about what comes next. Don’t hold on to anything. Let go. Fly away.
13 – Who cares about yesterday?
It’s crazy how we think back to yesterday!
Yesterday is so present, even though it’s totally over and gone.
Yesterday contains precious memories and lessons. No more, no less.
We don’t care about yesterday. Move on. Today is different.
14 – and tomorrow too
Tomorrow is so scary, it’s crazy!
Tomorrow is far too present in our today, even though it doesn’t yet exist.
What if we didn’t care about tomorrow? What if we just live what we have to live, right here, right now?
Tomorrow doesn’t have to be scary. Tomorrow will just be tomorrow. A new chance to live on this Earth.
15 – We don’t give a damn!
Not giving a damn is hard to accept. In fact, we haven’t learned to give a damn – quite the contrary, in fact.
Yes, we have learned to feel responsible for everything. Especially in today’s age of personal development.
We’re responsible for what we send out into the Universe, so if something happens to you, it’s because at some point you’ve attracted it to yourself.
Or, in relationships, if something goes wrong, it’s because you made it happen.
What if things happen because they happen?
What if we accepted that we weren’t responsible for everything?
Yes, a trial falls upon us, let’s do our best to overcome it. Let’s accept all the emotions that come with it.
But, above all, let’s not let guilt eat away at us. We’re not responsible for everything.
So let’s deal with it, but not take it personally.
That’s why don’t overthink things. Take things as they come and give yourself the right not to care.

I recommend this inspiring book:
Monica Sweeney’s journal offers a light-hearted but effective approach to shedding unnecessary baggage and embracing a happier life. Through prompts, exercises and humor, the book encourages us to rid ourselves of stress, negativity and self-imposed pressures. It serves as a practical tool for self-reflection and a guide to decluttering the mind, fostering a state of mind that prioritizes joy and contentment over unnecessary worry.
It’s a great and beneficial book, very funny. It made me laugh and think. The exercises are fun and not to be taken seriously. Of course, it doesn’t replace therapy if you need it. It’s a good companion for reflection, that’s all!
