How Can You Stop Being Afraid To Take Action?

Today we’re going to look at a very interesting question: how can I stop being afraid of taking action?
GET OUT OF THE IMAGINARY WORLD…
Here’s a really important tip: don’t live in the imaginary world.
What does that mean?
Here’s a truth: we’re afraid to act until we take action. What I’m about to say may sound totally absurd, but the fear of action is absurd in itself. And so, in answer to an absurd question, I’m giving rather silly answers.
Being afraid to act means living in the imagination.
There’s something very important to understand: when you feel like acting on something, right away your brain sets itself up and imagines the situation in which you’re going to act. For example, if you want to make a video, your brain will immediately imagine the situation as if you were making the video.
You’ll say to yourself: “I’m afraid I’ll stammer, I’m afraid I won’t be comfortable, I’m afraid I won’t know what to say”. If you want to write a book, your brain will imagine: “I’m afraid that what I’m writing is ridiculous, I’m afraid I won’t have any ideas when I write, I’m afraid I’ll fall victim to writer’s block (it’s the same thing as not having any ideas, well it’s something a bit different), I’m afraid I won’t like writing…”.
In short, when we feel like doing something, our brain imagines a whole bunch of things. They’re usually based on discomfort… any excuse you can think of.
… TO LIVE IN THE REAL WORLD
What you really need to understand is that this imaginary world doesn’t belong to reality. It’s in your head and is directly dependent on what we call your “internal belief base”.
Your internal belief base is the set of principles you’ve always held as right, true or wrong.
It is to a very large extent forged and conditioned:
By your upbringing, your close social circle, your friends.
By your social environment, i.e. whether you come from a modest, poor or wealthy background.
By your entourage: if you’re with colleagues in a certain field, they’re going to think differently.
If you’re an engineer, you’re going to be with people who have an engineer’s way of thinking, which is going to be totally different from if you’re a comedian or a theater actor.
All your fears (for example, getting in front of a camera or talking in front of an audience) will be shattered if you’re around people who are already doing what you want to do. Of course, your imagination of what you’re going to do is going to be much more positive than if you stick with people who aren’t used to talking on camera or in front of an audience.
Take doctors and accountants, for example, or any profession where you’re not used to being in front of the camera.
FEAR OF ACTION IS ABSURD: FORGET IT
What you need to understand is that the fear of taking action is totally absurd if you’ve never taken action on an activity.
You’re in the world of the imagination, and your perception of your ability to perform an action is always totally false. Until you’ve taken action, you have no idea how you’ll behave whatever the action you have to perform. My advice: stop imagining.
When you want to do something, don’t imagine what you can do before you do it, but actually do it.
In other words, give it a try. Make it as simple as possible. And if it doesn’t work, there’s one very important rule: try again. But if you try again, change one of the circumstances of the previous trial. If you try it again under exactly the same circumstances, it’ll be useless. And you’ll be making exactly the same mistakes again.
A lot of people say to themselves: “I don’t understand, because I really want to achieve this goal. I keep trying and trying.” I always ask these people, “What did you try?”
There are quite a few people who want to be known on the Internet, like me with “Full of Happiness”. And they say to themselves: “Yes, I have a blog and I’d like it to be known”. Let’s call her Olivia in this example:
Me: “Well, what do you do to make it known?
Olivia : “Well, I don’t know, I write this type of article”.
Me: “Right, okay. And how long have you been writing this type of article?”.
Olivia : “Well, it’s been 3 years.
Me: “Right, and how many visitors do you get to your website?”
Olivia : “Well, not many, about fifty a day, but I don’t have many.
THE IMPORTANCE OF TRYING AGAIN BY CHANGING THE INITIAL CIRCUMSTANCES
I agree, but maybe we’ll have to change the way we write articles. Maybe we’ll have to write longer or shorter articles.
This is another example from the Internet.
What really counts is to try by changing one of the circumstances, not all the initial circumstances of the previous attempt, but to change one of the initial circumstances. And to change an initial circumstance, you absolutely must have taken action at least once. Otherwise, you don’t know the circumstances of your trial.
This principle is called continuous improvement.
THE 2 IMPORTANT KEYS TO REMEMBER IF YOU WANT TO STOP BEING AFRAID OF TAKING ACTION
So there are two keys to remember in this article for people who are afraid to act, who are afraid to take action.
First of all, before you take action for the first time, you’re living in the world of fantasy, you’re living in a fairytale world at Disney Land with Mickey and Minie. You say to yourself: “I can’t do it, because I’m hopeless… . But you don’t know the first thing about it. It’s all based on your internal belief system, your upbringing, your social circle, the people you associate with, the social environment you live in, your wealth system, your perception of values. There are a lot of things.
And until you take action, it’s all imaginary. So really, take action, crush yourself! Fail once. Miss the trick. When you miss it, you’ll say to yourself: “Okay. I was afraid to act. Now I know that by taking action, I didn’t succeed. “But it’s an immense source of pride. Because knowing you haven’t succeeded detaches you from 95% of the population, who will never take action anyway. When you know you haven’t succeeded, well that’s exceptional because you can change one of the initial circumstances by saying: “Ok, I didn’t succeed. I’m going to try again by changing this aspect of my test. And we’ll see.
If you don’t want to be afraid of taking action, stop living in an imaginary world and get down to the nitty-gritty.
Otherwise, it’s pointless.
