No Desire To Work: Solutions To This Lack Of Motivation

Loss of motivation at work affects quality and productivity. The frightening thing is that you may not realize it until it’s too late. When you don’t feel like working at all – and this is often the case – you have to give that resentment time. To put an end to it and adopt attitudes that make you want to work. We’ll look at both what not to do to stay motivated at work and what to do to get rid of the lack of desire to work.
Some possible reasons for demotivation at work
YOU FEEL YOUR WORK IS POINTLESS
If you’re wondering why you do what you do, this could be the cause of your demotivation. Indeed, those who ask themselves this question feel useless or out of place. It can be discouraging and disturbing to get up and do a job for which you find no value.
It takes a little digging to realize the importance of your work. What you do is certainly useful to the functioning of a large chain. Whether it’s making coffee or filing documents, your work serves other people. There’s a reason for your work – you weren’t hired by mistake. Your efforts are rewarded with a well-deserved salary. All you have to do is fulfill your part of the contract. If you don’t feel like working because you don’t see a reason for your job, ask yourself what would happen if you left: they’d try to make up for your absence.
YOU’RE TOO BUSY
Perhaps you have too much work, too many responsibilities. But for some people, being busy makes them feel important. People like to say “I’m very busy”. But it’s a double-edged sword. Being very busy means having a lot of work to do, which leads to exhaustion.
What’s more, there’s a perception that busy people like to take on other responsibilities. Perhaps to curry favor with their superiors, to earn the respect of their colleagues. But the result is a neglect of personal life. In the long term, motivation is lost due to fatigue, stress, a critical personal life, etc.
The solution is to have a life outside work. Time for work, time for you and your family. Take enough breaks at work. You don’t always have to do everything yourself. Share the workload with your colleagues to avoid burn-out.
Avoid carrying your work around with you. Set yourself a period during the week to relax, away from e-mails and paperwork. Finally, learn to prioritize your tasks according to your physical and emotional availability. For example, you can tackle the most demanding tasks when you’re in top form.
YOU DON’T FEEL LIKE WORKING: IT’S HARD TO GET STARTED
Do you often wonder where to start? Sometimes, even when it’s a routine task, you just don’t know where to start. You procrastinate in the hope of finding the light at the end of the tunnel later. The problem? Not knowing where to start is very stressful, especially when you’re pressed for time. It can lead to a loss of motivation when you keep coming up against the same problem over and over again.
The first tip to remedy this is to start doing something, even anything. Think of it as a rough draft – your first attempt doesn’t have to be perfect. If you have to write a report, start by writing down all the key points of the report that come to mind, without necessarily considering style or even substance. Don’t feel like working? You don’t have to get it right the first time. Just doodle and you’ll feel like you’ve got it.
Secondly, apply the 5-minute rule. Make a pact with yourself to do something productive for 5 minutes for your work. For example, you could watch an Excel video about a problem you’re having. Once the 5 minutes are up, take a short break and start again when you’re ready.
YOU’RE NOT MAKING GOOD USE OF YOUR FREE TIME
Of course, when you’re exhausted from work and have some free time on your hands, you’d like to do nothing but lie around. To take a breather and enjoy life. However, lying in front of the TV and snacking isn’t always the best way to make the most of your time. In fact, when you use your free time in this way, you may not feel like getting back to work. It’s like going through alcohol withdrawal while allowing yourself alcoholic breaks. You don’t feel like working because you’re not using your free time properly.
I’m not asking you not to lie down with a remote control in your hand and nibble on things. We all need to take a breather. On the other hand, you can make better use of your free time by indulging in less recreational activities, such as reading or anything that requires a minimum of effort. Take part in enriching activities that will benefit you in some way. In your spare time, for example, you can listen to music while doing the housework. That way, you’ll be more motivated to do something work-related later on.
DON’T WANT TO WORK: YOU NEED A NEW JOB
The last reason why you don’t feel like working could be that you need a new job. Sometimes, in fact, you’re completely disconnected from the job you’re doing. In that case, the only thing to do is resign. If you feel this emptiness in your work, you should consider changing jobs.
Before you quit, make sure you’ve found a new job or know what you’re going to do next. You can do some personal introspection and a skills assessment to find out what skills you can bring to the job market. Personal introspection allows you to discover what you want, what inspires you and what you feel capable of. The skills assessment, on the other hand, enables you to identify your various professional skills, and your qualities as a person. The concept of ikigai is an excellent guide in this respect.
Don’t feel like working? Here are a few tips for you
USE A REWARD SYSTEM
Personally, I use reward systems to stay motivated. Instead of working 4 hours without interruption, you can insert 10-20 minute breaks. And it won’t affect your productivity. The aim of this maneuver is to make your brain understand that at the end of every effort, there’s a well-deserved reward.
During your breaks, try not to work at all. Disconnecting from work for 10 to 20 minutes doesn’t penalize you. On the contrary, it allows you to recharge your batteries. When you don’t feel like working, remember to take a break and get back to work. It’s also a pact you make with yourself.
SETTING THE SCENE WITH ACTIVE CONCENTRATION
Active concentration means being fully present and available for the task in hand. It differs from passive concentration. This is the type of concentration in which you think you’re available, but in reality you’re distracted by extraneous thoughts, such as checking your e-mail while you’re working.
It takes a certain amount of mental preparation to be in the best working conditions. You can start by deciding how much time you want to devote to your work. For example, set yourself the goal of working for an hour with active concentration, then take a break.
Of course, you may be distracted by your colleagues, or even your children if you telecommute. That’s why you need to prepare your workspace as well as possible. Make it clear to your colleagues that you have a task to complete, and that you’ll be meeting up right afterwards. Work when the children are away or quiet, etc.
DON’T FEEL LIKE WORKING: HAVE A BALANCED LIFESTYLE
Try to have a balanced lifestyle. Your work is important, but so is your personal life. It’s this balance that keeps you fresh, or rather in a state to do what you need to do. Many people have been broken by work because they couldn’t keep their balance.
Natural things like sleep are very important. Get enough sleep, eat a balanced diet and move around a lot. Regular physical activity improves the health of both body and mind. Don’t underestimate a walk in the park or elsewhere, whether accompanied or not. It gets the blood flowing, which is good for the brain and helps combat stress.
